Almost a year ago a small Old North house became vacant and went up for sale for what seemed a long time. The “for sale” sign finally came down a short while ago although the house showed little sign of life.
But that has now changed. A modest string of holiday lights frames the roof and front window and a lighted tree shines through that window.
It may be modest, but it is nonetheless powerfully cheerful.

Downtown parking is in the news because the “Downtown Parking Task Force” (“Task Force”) (image 1) presented a 256 page report to the Davis City Council this last Tuesday (image 2).
Numbers 2 and 3 of that group’s 19 recommendations caught my attention because they focus on getting downtown employees to park farther from the “core of the core” by motivating them to park in Old North (among other places).
The odd thing about this effort is that the Task Force proposes to stimulate this by starting to charge employees $8 a month for what is now free!
I guess it is only in quirky Davis that something free is made more attractive by charging $8 a month for it.

Repeating what is becoming a habit, the “A Change of Pace Foundation” will once againflood our streets with plodding racers--this time on Saturday, November 23rd.
Readers of ONChat will recall I reported on this event last year under the title “Plodding Masses on E Street, Saturday, Nov. 17,” which is here:
Looking at the pictures from last year, I see that it was raining.

I was going by the northeast corner of 5th and E streets about 4pm yesterday and noticed the body of an apparently dead fair-sized mammal with its head in the street drain and body in the gutter.
I stopped, took a picture (image 1), called the Davis Police and Yolo Animal Control, and went about other matters.
At dusk that same day, I took the photos from my camera and noticed two things.

Couple With Children 2 Years Old & 3 Months Old Ask: Is the Old North A Good Place For a Family To Live? (219)
In my role as the Old North Davis Chat blogger, I have received an email from a couple I do not know who have two children (2 years old and 3 months old) asking me if the Old North is “a good place for a family to live”?
My response to them was: Let’s find out how people answer this question by posting it on the Old North Davis Chat blog and on Old North NextDoor.
So, with the permission of the email writer, Audrey Hall, I reproduce what she explains about her family's situation and the question she asks.
I urge anyone who desires to respond to email Audrey at: email@example.com.
